Can you please help me in packaging the IE 10?

Legacy application only uses default printer - help!

Greetings - rather new with ThinApp, so please be patient if I miss some terms.

We're testing a ThinApp deployment of a XP based manufacturing app. Initial ThinApp capture worked fine and the Application runs fine - expect for printing.

This Application uses a definition file to assign various printing functions to specific local printers. Labels go to 'My Label Printer', reports go to 'My report Printer', etc. However, when we execute the ThinApp on Windows 7 the default behavior is to print everthing to the default Windows 7 printer. Not good.

Curious if anybody has some insight as to what type of tweaking needs to be done to the ThinApp registry files to resolve the problem, or at least send me in the right direction.

Open pdf-file directly form thinapped IE throws error

Hi

So I've thinapped IE 9 successfully. However, when I try to add a required app link that points to my thinapped Adobe Reader 11, IE stops displaying graphics and icons properly and takes ages to start up.

After removing the app link, it worked fine again.

The problem now is that when a user downloads a pdf file and chooses to open instead of first saving it, IE won't find the Adobe Reader and throws an error. After like two to three minutes, Adobe Reader opens the file anyway because I've added the filetype .pdf in the package.ini of the thinapped Adobe Reader.

Is there a way to get rid of this error message?

ThinApp of Java 7 Update 45

I created a thinapp of Java 7 Update 45, following the instructions from the ThinApp Blog, and the msi installs fine. I can see it in Programs and Features in Control Panel, and the About Java start menu item appears and opens showing me that it is Java 7 Update 45. Unfortunately, my browsers are not aware that it is installed, the installation is not recognized by "verify your java installation" on the java webpage nor on javatester.org. Can someone point me in the right direction to get this to work? I'm not sure what to check or change. Thank you.

ThinApp TightVNC Server

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone had managed to ThinApp TightVNC server?

I have rolled out a windows 7 version to a virtual desktop and get all of the icons that I need.

VNC viewer comes up fine, and I can even use the viewer from a virtual desktop to connect to my reference VM where TightVNC is installed (installed locally).

When I run VNC server (the thinapp version), it shows the icon in the system tray and also the IP address of the VMware View VDI VM, but when I try to connect to the VM via a thinapped viewer it prompts for the password but then nothing happens, and I eventually get the connection was gracefully shutdown.

The scenario is, we have a wallboard which comes from a desktop pool via a thinclient, and we need multiple users to be able to access the wallboard without killing the session on screen.

I didn't want to hard install VNC Server on to the desktop image because another pool uses the same image, and I also didnt want to create a separate desktop image (because that means its another desktop I have to keep up to date with patches), so the idea was to thinapp VNC server, run it, and then users could connect to it via the thinapp VNC Viewer (with AD rights applied).

The problem I think we have is that the thinapp version of VNC Server doesnt install the TightVNC Server service in to windows and that might be the issue, despite me being able to telnet to the port that VNC is using (5900)...

Anyone any suggestions?

Thanks!

ThinApp Side by Side Upating

Hello,

We are running a Horizon workspace environment with thinapp set to local mode. I am trying to do the side by side updating such as Firefox.dat.1 or Firefox.1. The issue I am having is that whenever I do this Horizon is not picking up the app as being updated still says 1.0 in Horizon Admin Web portal. I used the "is this a update of another package" and pointed it to the proper package and still no dice. It doesn't matter if I put the new .exe  in the package folder or not. If I change it from .exe to .1 to match the new .dat file still can not get it to work. I have googled and looked at the forums but nothing seems to help. Just wondering if anyone has any advice on this. I also tried to do just straight up updating the package and I still can not get that to work unless I delete the whole package delete the repo and let it rebuild with the new package there and it will just state that it is 1.0 not a 2.0.

Does anyone have a clue with this problem can be.

Thanks

update: after some debuggin, i see that there is an access violation at the shell32.dll, if build with appv 5.

Hi.

I have tested QB 2013 and QB 2014 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2012.

Crash details in attach.

Is it possible to run same thinapp package as two instances each with own sandbox ?

I have thinapp package of some banking app and one user needs to run two different instances of the same app but with the different data. I can of course build just another package with different package and sandbox name but this complicates things in the future.

So I'm wondering if it's possible to "select" sandbox on entry point level or something like that.

Thinapp 5.0, removable disk and ghost drive letters

I'm using some simple applications packaged with Thinapp 5.0.  When a thinapped V5 app is running and I eject a removable disk such as usb flash disk, the drive letter remain assigned.

When a removable disk is re-inserted, the next available letter will be assigned..

The only way to reclaimed the "ghost" driver letters is to close any thinapped application..

Any clues?

Virtualizing RSAT with ThinApp 5 - MMC MSC problems

$

Hi All,

After a few months of browsing, I am finally posting something because I need help!  If I can get this problem solved, I plan on publishing a new recipe here to the discussion boards to benefit those who are running into the very same problem.

I have done *tons* of searching on this topic; add command-line attributes to the Package.ini file; use the /32 switch for MMC...none of which are working for me:

- ThinApp version 5.0.0-1391583

- Windows 7 SP1 x86 (clean install, joined to domain, using admin account to package apps)

After installing RSAT to my VM, when attempting to start AD Users and Computers, I get this error message:

"MMC cannot open the file C:\Windows\system32\dsa.msc

This may be because the file does not exist, is not an MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC.  This may also be because you do not have sufficient access rights to the file"

My ThinApp and target VMs are both running the exact same Windows 7 SP1 x86 build, so I know it's not a platform issue (and people have done this before me, so....)

For what it's worth, Active Directory Administrative Center works fine, so does the PowerShell snap in.

AD Domains and Trusts, AD Sites and Services, AD Users and Computers, Certification Authority, DFS, DNS, File Server Resource Manager, and Group Policy Management all exhibit this error.

The following Package.ini file is the stock ThinApp generated file (I set MSIStreaming to '1'):

ThinApp 5 - MS Office 2010 as an Applink for another application - License activation error

Hi

With ThinApp 5 and this procedure : VMware KB: Packaging guide for ThinApp 5.x and Microsoft Office 2010 ThinApping Office become very easy and now on Windows7.

I followed this steps and my Office 2010 package work very well.

BUT, now i'm trying to call Office from another application (Opale) to open a document in MS Word. Each time my application is trying to call Office i have an error message saying Office cannot verify the license for this product. A repair attempt failed or was canceled by the user.

I tried to create an empty package, juste with a CMD and merge it with a RequiredApplink to my Office package. When i run Winword.exe from my CMD, Word opens, launch a setup and same message, office cannot verify license for this product.

Has anybody faced (and solved) this issue?

I think a lot of applications are calling office... i'm surprised to find so few information.

Thanks in advance for any help.

ThinApp URL lock

Hello,

I successfully created a IE6 ThinApp to run an older version of Javascript required by our company application. I was wondering if there is a way to lock that ThinApp client so that it can only access one specific URL. We want our employees to use the ThinApp client for opening the company oracle app and nothing else. I am just not sure if that is something that i can do from inside ThinApp or if I need to administrate that from our Active Directory.

Thanks in advance.

Google Chrome thinapp

Hi All,

I'm trying to thinapp Google Chrome which isn't really a problem. The issue I'm having is that it saves a cache to the sandbox, which for some of our users is over 500mb.

Rather than educating users on how to remove the cache, i wondered if there was a way to stop it saving it altogether.

Ive searched for a few days and found the following command to add to the end of the target path on the shortcut to the application

--disk-cache-size=N --media-cache-size=N

To be used like:

"C:\program files\google chrome\chrome.exe"--disk-cache-size=N --media-cache-size=N

I'm using version 31.0.1650.63 of Google Chrome and version 5 of thinapp

Has anyone else had a similar issue?
