Hi,

Does anyone have succesfully thinapped cognos 7.4 on windows 7 32bit?

I'm getting an error (Error -55 database activation cancelled) and i can't connect to the database.

The strange is when i start the Thinapp Log Monitor to see what is going wrong the connection to the database works fine.

Does anyone have an idea to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi.

I have successfully thinapp Foxit Phantom PDF 8.3. But have some trouble with OCR.

If user run OCR engine (it starts FREngineProcessor.exe) Foxit crashes on exit (see attach).

If user doesn't launch OCR Foxit stops normally.

Did somebody resolve similar problem?

Hi.

I have noticed that Server Work Queue\Queue Length counter value is always 0 (zero).

Whatever I do, it doesn't reacts.

Does this performance counter works correctly in guest OS? Or should I enable it in some special way?

I use ESXi host ver. 5.1.0, guest OS - Windows Server 2012 R2.

64 Bit OS/Apps don't support VBS?

We have recently moved to 64 bit base OS for Horizon.

When building any thinapp on this new base OS, it will not work if I include a VBS file (for doing the FirstParentStart functions etc):

  • Packaged Thinapp works fine without a VBS file.
  • VBS file works fine on it's own.
  • Even if I comment out everything or have a blank VBS file, the ThinApp package doesn't work.

It does attempt to run, but fails:

  • ThinApp popup appears with license details
  • the process spawns (seen in Task Manager), but then exits.
  • Packaged App doesn't run
  • no errors are shown.

Found similar issue (VB script crash thinapp ) but the solution doesn't apply to me as that DLL is not present in the package.

Any ideas?

Thinapp clickonce app

Hi

I'm working with a click once app that requires you to logon to a webpage first and then have the link on the webpage launch the app. This means I can't open the clickonce app directly, because there is session token that is passed from the website to the click once app. In a last attempt to get this to work with Horizon View application pools I'm trying to put it in a thinapp. The problem is I've captured internet explorer 10 and that works as expected, and I've tried to capture the dot net framework 4.5 as well. When  I launch the click once app , I get a message that "ClickOnce has stopped working" and the event is CLR20r3 and it references dfsvc.exe, System.Drawing, and System.ArgumentException. Has anyone seen something similar?

If I set ChildProcessEnvironmentDefault=External  I don't get that error, but that's because its using the local dot net framework.

ThinApp - Windows 7 (x64) / Internet Explorer 9 / Java 1.71

Help!  Has anyone successfully packaged these together.  I have tried several different ways and every time I package it together either the browser won't work at all it just hangs, or I get lots of prompts about my java being out of date.  How do I package them together where it will run the webpage I need without any prompts or error messages.

Things I have tried.

1.  Install IE 9 - Run a prescan install java and then run post scan

2.  Run a prescan - Install IE9 and java - and then post scan

3.  Install IE 9 and java then click the Internet Explorer option and then post scan.

Any which way I try it, it won't open on any box or opens and prompts.  Please help.

Thank you.

Thinapp Office 2013

Hi,

I am following the KB article for virtualizing Office 2013 (Packaging guide for ThinApp 5.x and Microsoft Office 2013 (2062691) | VMware KB) and I am using a MAK licence file for that.I know using Thinapp 4.x it was a requirement for the user to activate the application on the first time use.  Is that still the case or is there a workaround?  I assume it is as it is MS related and needs authorization.  What I am trying to do is deploy office in a secure environment with no Internet access and I don't want the users to have to phone for authorization if possible.

Thinapp and browsers (Chrome and Firefox), lots of issues

Hello:

Are there some guidelines or best practices for capturing Chrome and Firefox?  The reason I am asking is that we are having a bunch of issues with each.  In more detail:

Chrome: We thinapped the latest version of Chrome, without any additional plugins, with and without the --no-sandbox option per the KB article here:

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2104409VMware KB: Google Chrome fails when capturing Google Chrome with VMware ThinApp

This one works fine on the initial run, but after it is closed and opened a second time, it will not work properly after that.  It crashes, then upon re-launching it will consume 100% cpu and its window never opens even though the process is running.  If I clear the Thinapp sandbox folder for Chrome, it will open up fine for the first time, but when opening a second time the same issue comes back.

Firefox: We thinapped the latest version of Firefox, along with the latest Java 1.8.x, latest Flash, and VMware client integration plugin.  It worked fine for about a week then all of a sudden one day it no longer launches (and we haven't changed anything) with the error: Fatal Application Exit, Unable to Open.

I've been looking around and the information is fragmented.  I've seen posts with similar issues in the past but supposedly they were resolved with later versions of the Thinapp setup capture program which we are using the very latest and greatest version (5.1.1).  To my knowledge we are using best practices and using a bare minimum Windows 7 VM to capture with.  Any help would be appreciated, if there have been known working solutions or combinations of versions that work.

Thanks in advance.

Mozilla FireFox ThinApp - flash player not work

Dear all,

we are searching the correct way to ThinApp Mozilla FireFox version 45, we've tried everything that we found in internet, any user guide ..but it was useless.. no one of this works well.

Each time we want to start Adobe Flash Player version test, on this link https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html, we get this error;

************************************

Unable to load DLL

C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\FlashPlayerPugin_21_0_0_213.exe -> COMDLG32.dll

Access Denied.

************************************

We also tried to ThinApp Adobe Flash Player separately and link it to the project through package.ini with command "OptionalAppLinks=plugins\*.exe" but for Firefox doesn't work, it works very well for Internet Explorer.

As last test we've tried to install directly on base image on local machine but we get the same error message.

There are some suggestions ?

Chrome and its missing taskbar icon

After the recent debacle with trying to get a recent version of Firefox to work in Thinapp I gave up. VMware Support basically tells me I'm SOL and they won't put any effort into solving the problems we have with Firefox. So, since I'm unable to provide my end users a working Thinapp of Firefox we decided to see how things go with Chrome.

Well...better. I downloaded the Enterprise installer and ran it through Thinapp 5.2.2. Then I integrated the provide .admx files and made a nice group policy to configure it. Works nicely, and most definitly way, way, way better and faster than Firefox as of late. I redirected the Chrome user data directory to a network location (user home directory) even though technically we're not supposed to according to Chrome. But alas, I'm running into a problem. There's no task bar icon. This has been reported before (in 2014!): Taskbar Icon problem with Google Chrome 32

Sadly, no workable final solution has come from all of that. Imagine that, it's only been two and half years. No rush. Every once in a while a taskbar icon does actually appear depending how much I mess with the user datadirectory and its location. But generally it's just once, and all other sessions after that the icon is blank, no matter where I put the user data. Has anyone else come up with a workable solution to this issue with Chrome, or is everyone basically stuck with having to accept this kind of annoying behaviour? Stuff like this is highly annoying and the seeming unwillingness of VMware to make their product work nicely with the most popular applications is frankly a bit disappointing. Guess we'll be looking at Unidesk sooner rather than later, Thinapp doesn't seem to have much support or a future anymore.

Downloads not available with ThinApp virtualised Internet Explorer 10

I am attempting to virtualise Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 7 x64 to deploy on Windows 10 x64.

I can successfully virtualise this using ThinApp, however when using the virtualised copy on Windows 10, I am unable to download any files and also cannot access the downloads area within Internet Explorer either from the menu or using the CTRL+J keyboard shortcut.

Anybody seen this behaviour before or managed to get downloads working with ThinApp virtualised Internet Explorer?

Thanks

Thinapp 5.0, removable disk and ghost drive letters

I'm using some simple applications packaged with Thinapp 5.0.  When a thinapped V5 app is running and I eject a removable disk such as usb flash disk, the drive letter remain assigned.

When a removable disk is re-inserted, the next available letter will be assigned..

The only way to reclaimed the "ghost" driver letters is to close any thinapped application..

Any clues?

when checked for About under updates there was an error showing "an error occurred update check failed to start (error code: 3:0*80004002--system level)

Is there a way to get rid of this and make update check comes with " updates were disabled by the administrator"

Thinapp scripting > list published applications

  Hi everyone,

I am trying to figure out a way to make a script that dumps a list of all published apps of a given Thinapp environment. I think I would use powershell for such a simple task, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Or would VBScript be easier?

Any advice would be super helpful!

Thinapp 5.2.1 and Windows 10

I have a problem with virtualized applications with ThinApp 5.2.1 and Windows 10. In other operating systems work perfectly, but in Windows 10 gives me the following error: " ThinApp has encountered an unexpected error. Click Abort to close the application, Retry to debug, or Continue to ignore the error. Support info PID=3564, create_process.cpp@1949.

They are compatible with the virtualized ThinApp Applications in Windows 10 ?

Thanks for the help
