VMware Thinreg Failure

Hello,

I am following this KB article (Deploy ThinApp and AppLink packages together - VMware ThinApp Blog - VMware Blogs) in order to try to package three applications (A needs B and C) together.  I edit everything as needed in the document but when installing the application A msi I get the error

VMware ThinApp Thinreg Tool - Unable to register C:\...\AppB.exe:

Do I have to enable thinreg somewhere - I don't think so as it is registering all previous exe fine.

Thanks,

ThinApp 5.2 fails to execute on Windows 10

Has anyone had any difficulty with ThinApp 5.2 running on Windows 10?  Installer works just fine, but all installed applications crash upon startup.  Setup Capture.exe and log_monitor.exe both crash each time they are executed.

ThinApp - Paint.NET problem.

Hello,

We have tried packaging Paint.NET but it did not work. We used a clean virtual machine while doing that but the resulting .exe file does not even work on the virtual machine although Paint.NET works on it.

.NET is packaged together with Paint.NET. The error is:

"Missing Import C:\Prpgram Files\paint.net\SxS\X86\ucrtbase.dll -> kernelbase.dll:CreateProcessA"

We have also tried copying .dll files in different directories but it is still not working.

Thanks in advance.

Note: Same problem with TortoiseSVN.

Isolation Mode semantics for GPO v registry

Hi,

I think I understand the semantics of isolation mode, however when I set a web app default home page to be http://url.com, when I install the webapp and have it fully locked down with no address bar, context menu etc.  However it picks up the GPO default URL and goes to that site instead of the one that I have set in the registry as isolation full.  My understanding (could be wrong) is that GPO overrides, but is this the case in isolation full as well and if so is there a way around this?

Thanks,

Chrome

So, I've read thru here and tried a number of suggestions without any joy.

So, I'll just ask.  Can I ThinApp the latest version of Chrome and use it on a Windows 10 64-bit virtual desktop?  I've downloaded the enterprise MSI for use in the install and, as I said, I've tried a number of suggestions for modifying the package.ini and other things and when I start it as a package it crashes.  My capture machine is a Windows 10 64-bit clean machine.

How does a ThinApped browser deals with catching viruses?

I've been creating ThinApps and messing with some of their settings, but I have one nagging question. How does a ThinApped browser deal with catching a virus?

If you use the ThinApped browser, like IE or Chrome, and you visit a shady website and click the wrong link, where would the virus try to attack and how would this be handled with the sandbox involved?

I've seen people say that if you package an app with a virus, the virus has a chance of infecting the client computer when the app is used, but you can just delete the sandbox and that would take care of most of the issue. My question is about if you download a virus with the ThinApped browser.

I'm just really curious on how this would be handled on the software side of things. Any insight would be appreciated.

I have successfully thinapp'd acrobat dc pro. i used the acrobat customization wizard dc to which the "grant offline exception" was selected. when launching acrobat between the pre and post scan, i'm not prompted for the adobe sign in. however, when launching the thinapp'd acrobat (from virtual desktops), i'm prompted for the Adobe sign in.

any ideas on why this would come up?

Thinapp Office 2013

Hi,

I am following the KB article for virtualizing Office 2013 (Packaging guide for ThinApp 5.x and Microsoft Office 2013 (2062691) | VMware KB) and I am using a MAK licence file for that.I know using Thinapp 4.x it was a requirement for the user to activate the application on the first time use.  Is that still the case or is there a workaround?  I assume it is as it is MS related and needs authorization.  What I am trying to do is deploy office in a secure environment with no Internet access and I don't want the users to have to phone for authorization if possible.

Thinapp Firefox ESR Issue - The address isn't valid error

Hello Guys,

I have recently struggling with Firefox ESR thinapp, actually it already happened in previous version 38.8.0 ESR, but I was able to fix that issue by this guide :

1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste pref and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.preferences.inContent preference to switch it from true to false

But since FF is changing the policy as stated in this from them :

Firefox 38 switched from a pop-up Options dialog to an "in tab" options page. Some users are finding that it doesn't work for them, but so far we haven't identified the reason - and this - Note: I don't know whether that will be in Firefox forever or is a transitional feature. As you've probably noticed, the long-term trend is to remove things that pop up.

It looks it already came and I am not able to fix that (should be since version 42) for the last 45.2.0 ESR version in thinapp. When I install the FF, all works, but when I get the packaged FF by thinapp, then it does not work. All like about:home, about:preferences, about:newtab etc. command does not work, even some https links.

I have tried to thinapp it by also older version, but no success. Currently we use last 5.2.1 .

Would you know what can be wrong there with FF? Anyone of you have the same?

Thanks in advance for any advice. Pakcage.ini attached

ThinApped .exe Won't End

I ThinApped a small application we're having some issues deploying. Everything has seemed to go fine, the app runs and all, but, what's odd is when you close the ThinApp, the .exe never ends in Task Manager. This is a problem simply because it seems like the app won't run again while the .exe is there. Is it possible to force close it?

Thanks.

chrome icon does not show in the task bar when the browser is opened (Chrome v52.0.2743.82)

Hello there

Chrome icon does not show in the task bar when the browser is opened even though Google Profile.ico file exists under %localappdata%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default location.

This was never an issue until the last version of chrome.

Also when I launch the new version of Google chrome, close it, and then launch the Google chrome currently in production the icon also gets missing.

The load time is quite long and the browser freezes while I try to open a new tab. Again I have not faced this issue for the previous version of chrome.

Is anyone else having this problem or does anyone know how to fix these issues?

Thank You.

How to secure ThinApp applications

$

Hello everyone,

I am using ThinApp to capture applications that are supposed to communicate between the application software and the computer inside of an aircraft or land vehicle. This software downloads a fault report from the computer inside the vehicle, and then converts it into relevant and helpful data to resolve the issue.

As such, I wanted to know some in’s and out’s of how ThinApp communicates between the app and an outside source. I understand about the isolation modes and how they work, and I know about the sandbox and how it works. But what I want to know is what ports does the ThinApp use to communicate, and can I change which ports it can access? If I can specify some weird and crazy port number, like 9909 or something, and only allow the ThinApp and the vehicle to communicate on this port, the whole endeavor should be more secure.

With uploading and downloading information from such an expensive vehicle like this, I need the application to be as secure as possible. If there are any extra layers of security that I can add to stop a cyber-attack in its tracks, they should be added if possible. If anyone has any other suggestions for added security measures, I would greatly appreciate them as well.

Running Packaged Applications With Thinapp 5.2 On Windows 10

Hi,

I recently upgraded the Windows 7 pro Sp1 to Windows 10 on my Dell PC and my Samsung Laptop.  I noticed the applications packaged with Thinapp 5.2 run on my laptop without any problem.  But running them on my Dell PC, I get an error message.  The only difference during the upgrading was I upgrade my Laptop while  downloading the operating system.  On my Dell PC I upgraded from an ISO  file.  For upgrading there was two options. One was you could download the ISO file first and upgrade or do upgrading while downloading.

Did any one experienced this?

Hello,

I am trying to package a service that runs on windows 2003 to be able to run it on windows 2008.

I did a pre-scan, installed the service, and then ran  a post scan and created an exe and an msi installer.

When I installed the msi on windows 2008, it did not install a service and did not work. What am I doing wrong? can someone point me to the correct procedure for this?

thanks!
