Hi - This is something I've never come across before.

Attempting to capture using ThinApp 5.2.1 on Windows 7. At the point the post and pre-snapshot are compared ThinApp crashes...

"Snapshot tool has stopped working"

Problem Event Name: BEX64

Application Name: snapshot64.exe

Version: 5.2.1.20117

Has this happened to anyone else?

Thinapp error

Whenever I try to open a portable program created with Thinapp I get an error message like :" ThinApp has encountered an unexpected error.Click Abort to close the application, Retry to debug,or Continue to ignore the error. Support info:PID=5408, Runtime2.cpp@841".

You can not go on and have to close the program.

What can I do to get it working again ?

Hello,

If I have a ThinApp executable or dat file but I don't have the original precompiled setup capture files, is it possible to extract the application's file and registry contents from the executable/dat file?

Thanks

Thinapp scripting > list published applications

  Hi everyone,

I am trying to figure out a way to make a script that dumps a list of all published apps of a given Thinapp environment. I think I would use powershell for such a simple task, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Or would VBScript be easier?

Any advice would be super helpful!

Hi to all members,

i've recently created a thinapp application (based on Internet Explorer) that worked fine on windows 7, 8.1 and 10.

on windows 10 I had to refer to this KB : 2137873

Now this app won't work on windows 10 Anniversary Edition (has stopped working!), the 5.2.1 does not support this version of windows 10?

any suggestions?

thank in advance, scanda

Thinapp R, RStudio, RTools and Rstan

Hello,

i'm trying to create a package with 4 statistical open source applications R, RStudio, RTools and Rstan.

Everything seems working fine in the composer machine (Tried WinXp, Win7-32 and 64). After installing and loading all dependecies, Rstan is installed. I try to load a basic function and the result is fine.

When i try to run the captured package in another machine i've got compilation error. Same result if i try to run the same script in the composer machine i've used for capture.

Does anybody have experience with this combination?

Thanks for attention

Regards

Nicola

Thinapp Citrix XenApp with Native Citrix Receiver

$

Hello,

By any chance has anyone tried to capture XenApp with an earlier IE version while having native receiver installed?  I am attempting this but the problem I have is that the Xenapp file that is downloaded (launch.ica) opens receiver rather than Xenapp and therefore fails.  I have tried to create that ica file and rename to cica with the association to XenApp.  That fails saying the ICA file is corrupt (it must expect the format even though the contents are all clear text).

Would appreciate any info on a way around this.  I've tried some isolation settings but keep getting either the same issue or it is too isolated and doesn't talk to the back end servers.

Thanks for any assistance.

thinapp process Firefox 49.x kills

$

Hi everyone,

we're experiencing a problem with the thinapp of Firefox; since Mozilla Firefox 49.0, the thinapp process of the packaged application kills after a couple of seconds after starting the entrypoint. The problem occurs in 49.0 and 49.0.1 (x64).

We ran LogMonitor but couldn't identify the problem.

I copied he most important entries in the trace file into the end of this discussionentry.

Does anyone encounter the same issues?

And if so, and when solved, what was the solution to the problem?

Does anyone have an idea to the solution?

Jousma

File Type Isolation

Hi,

Is it possible to have a full isolation except for specific kind of files (using file extension)? So that the packaged application can write anywhere these kind of files but nothing else.

For example OpenOffice could write *.ods files everywhere and that's all.

Thanks,

Laurent.

Application Startup Delay

I made a package that "sometimes" take 15/20sec to load the app and "sometimes" only 3/4sec. The package is not modified between tries and the sandbox folder not modified/deleted also. The system load (CPU, memory) are equivalent. I don't understand this behaviour... It seems that after a system boot (waiting long enough so that all the boot process is done and the system is "idle") the application loading is long to load and after some open/close (5/10 times) it becomes faster to load. Any idea what could be the deal and how I can have a quick application start everytime?

VDI: User Package.ini, VirtualComputerNames and %ViewClient_Machine_Name to pass the Host Name to to the application

Two applications that I have ThinApp'd use the hostname in the application to make a server connection.

On a physical machine, the applications have the VirtualComputerName commented out and the applications pickup the hostname without issue.

Now, these TA applications are moving to Horizon VIew environments with non-persistent desktops.

These applications are picking up the VDI host name.

Changed the VirtualComptuerName=%ViewClient_Machine_Name% hoping that I would pickup the hostname of the device running the View Client.

When I run a cmd either in the VDI session or from the Thinapp application CMD, echo %ViewClient_Machine_Name% gives the hostname of the View Client, but that is not getting passed on to the application.

The application is still picking up the VDI hostname.

Reason: From https://communities.vmware.com/VirtualComputerName

In addition to specifying a literal string, such as LOCALHOST, you can specify an environment variable.

VirtualComputerName=%VCOMPNAME%

When you specify an environment variable, the value returned is the value of the environment variable. If the value of the VirtualComputerName parameter is %VCOMPNAME%, and the %VCOMPNAME% environment variable is set to EnvCompName, the GetComputerName API returns EnvCompName.

Or is my only option to use LocalHost?

Thanks!

ThinDirect redirection screen not closing since applying October 2016 MS patches

Hello

We are running Windows 7 sp1, x64 - fully patched with IE11 of course.  We have a business website that will not run in IE11, so we used ThinApp with the ThinDirect feature to package IE9 years ago when we first migrated to Windows 7.  This package was made in ThinApp 4.7 or there abouts.

This has worked fine until this week.  Our patch testers, and myself now see the ThinDirect yellow redirection ribbon do its little count down to 0, and never close.  The IE9 window does open, and appears to still work which is great.  However we imagine users will start complaining when we push this months patches to all machines.

so to clarify, the problem is that the below screen never closes like it used to.

Has anyone seen this or have ideas on a fix?

I checked the ThinDirect.dll version and it is 4.7.3.7101.

update: I have confirmed that the screen starts to close properly again after removing both kb3185330 and kb3192391.  Just one does not seem to do the trick.

ThinApp Licensing for those who started with 4.x

Hello

I posted about a problem recently regarding a package we made in 4.7.  Since then I have attempted to re-do this in various versions of 5.x, but I cannot get the packager licensed.  In the 4.x series (if I remember this properly) you licensed the packager, and then licensed the users separately.  We still maintain users, so as 5 was released we made sure we were licensed.  However it looks like we never licensed the packager.  I say that because the license codes we have in our VMware account come back as invalid when I try and use them to install 5 (any version I have tried in 5 thus far).

So I think we do not have the license for the packager anymore - but we are having a hard time explaining this to our VAR.  Our VAR says the product just doesn't exist - so what are we missing?  was there some branding change or terminology change that I missed out on?  How does one license the packager now?  It looks to me like ThinApp still exists .. this site says it can still be licensed stand alone .. ThinApp Agentless Application Virtualization: VMware

UPDATE: To clarify what I am asking - How do you license the version 5 packager?  the license code for the ThinApp 5 Client does not appear to work, and has our VAR stumped.  Our VAR says there is no such thing as a ThinApp 5 packager license... As posted in one of the replies below we do have 300 ThinApp 5 client licenses, and that is the code I used to get this error:

Office 2013 - Outlook previewer not working

$

Wonder if anyone can help, bit of a weird one, I have successfully thinapped Office 2013 and it appears to be working fine except for one thing, the previewer in Outlook will not work, when you click on an attachment to preview it either comes up with "unable to load dll oart.dll ... access denied" or the following message "This file can't be previewed because ofan error in the Microsoft Word previewer", the access denied message has me wondering but that dll is present in the captured package in the Office15 folder.

Please see details of the thinapp:

- Office Standard 2013 32bit captured on Windows 7 vanilla 32bit, straight capture, no plugins etc

- Steaming to Window 7 64bit (not sure if that is an issue? everything I've read said it should be fine streaming Office 32bit to Windows 7 64bit)

- Using ThinApp 5.1.0

- Outlook previewer is working fine locally on the thinapp machine

- I'm only testing the previewer on other Office documents (word, excel etc)

This is a minor issue but our users will be expecting the previewer to be working.

Any ideas?

FireFox + Java RTE: Getting Errors

$

Hello!

I'm new to VMware ThinApp and currently working on a FireFox + Java RTE package.

After delivering the package to the end-users I've received feedback on two different errors:

1. firefox (002).jpg

2. firefox2.jpg

The users have told me that these errors keep reoccuring - especially after a period of being inactive (e.g. coming back from lunch while keeping FF running).

After the error #1 the users would have to delete the local app data files of the virtualised appliaction in order to get it running again. According to the users there is no pattern or action to provoke these errors.

Software Version (OS: Win7 x64 Ent):

VMware ThinApp 5.2.0-18454

Java Runtime Engine 1.8.0_101-b13

FireFox 48.02

Installation Routine:

Both applications are a default installation with one exception; Updates are being disabled.

Firstly FireFox and secondly Java RTE.

Capture Routine:

Entry Points: firefox.exe

Groups: Everyone
Isolation: Restricted write acces (WriteCopy isolation mode)

Package Settings: Use seperate .DAT file

Package.ini: No changes

I'm thankful for any help!

Kind regards

Lukas
